when naming your character, try to think of something unique. While naming from a book or a movie is okay – Hedwig, Soren, and Twilight for example – please try to keep from using these names. We are not a Guardian’s of Ga’Hoole roleplay site, or a Harry Potter messenger owl site. We are strictly an owl’s site, a completely different ball game! So, try not to use names from books and movies too much. (I’ll even admit that I am guilty of this already.)
If there was an encouraged names list, it would be the longest that any site anywhere had ever seen! That is why site administrators don’t make them, haha! But encouraged names are Egyptian and Greek (ancient, or Mod) names, since the setting of the site does have a ton to do with Egypt and Greece. Other names in foreign languages, even Latin names, are encouraged!
Nature specific names, like Water, Fire, Earth, and Air, are not acceptable, and will not be accepted. Magicians revere these as sacred. Ocean, Sea, and Wave, also will not be accepted in any forum.
Please, when naming your character, take care and think about their names, because Names Matter.T R A D E

you are not limited to what your characters trade can be. They can be a simple shop owner in Menes or Thebes; they can be a rouge, trader, thief, or magician, a high official of the court in either city! Unlimited! But please, also understand that we are not a human RPG, and that it would be rather difficult for a bird to be a … well, need I say it? I already know you’re thinking it. So, be cautious when choosing a trade! I will be watching.
For high ranks, such as a court physician, or a court member, or even Lord or King of one of the cities, contact me first. I don’t want to be unfair to my other members and just give it away without having them try out for the part as well! You understand, right? Good. So, please contact me before you chose such a high position!
side note: Are you interested in starting a small group of thieves? Think there would be enough interest? Contact me on this too, I won’t allow very many – in fact we have one, and that is about all we can have. Your group will not get a special drop down menu to display its members; it will be strictly not connected with the site plot itself, but a smaller plot off to the side. If you wish your small group to become a bigger part of the site, we will have to talk it over in depth.A P P E A R A N C E

the most important thing about a biography is the appearance of your character. I really don’t think that there needs to be a lecture about how long and well your appearance needs to be written, because I hate lectures, and I hate giving them. Your character is very special! The owl species you chose is a lovely choice! There is no such thing as an ugly owl – though some may beg to differ. Each is beautiful in its own special way. Please talk about your characters appearance as such. But don’t be like: “ANNA’S FEATHERS ARE THE MOST BEAUTIFUL IN ALL OF THE WORLD/LAND/OCEAN/STARS NOTHING CAN COMPARE THEE TO A MIDSUMMERS DAY… OF WHICH SHE IS MORE BEAUTIFUL THAN!” I mean, I wouldn’t believe that anything is more beautiful than a midsummer’s day! Give your character physical flaws; partial blindness, weak flight, or something different. Make it believable!
Your owls feathers and eyes should be natural. There is no such thing as an owl with purple eyes. If there were, I would know about it because it would be my favorite owl! Wouldn’t it be yours? So make it natural. Don’t go coloring the eyes in an image editing program, and say it’s natural. I will know, I’m so easily fooled. So, don’t try. I encourage you to be descriptive, and to meet the word count requirements!P E R S O N A L I T Y

probably the most over used personality types are bossy, flirty, and detached from society. I don’t mind these kinds of characters; I don’t want to see it in every single one of your characters personalities. As fun as a flirty character is, try not to overdo it! Instead, give your character a wide range of personalities, and be sure that they are well developed as well – so you can understand what you are roleplaying. There are wide varsities of synonyms that can be used to describe the simplest words (All hail the Thesaurus!)
Be different with your character’s personality, know your character’s personality, and I promise that you will roleplay them better and better each time. If you’ve ever done this, you know how much fun your character is to roleplay! If there were other tips for you when considering your characters personality, well, you just got it in a nut-shell.H I S T O R Y
historia
we all hate writing histories! It is a known fact. I hate writing them, you hate writing them, but really, we might be over reacting to writing about our characters history! I think we just get so lost as to where to begin writing about our characters beginnings. There are also, so many different kinds of histories; sad ones, tragic ones, happy ones, ‘normal’ ones. We who have trouble with our history making, need try and look at it a different way. So I say to you, and myself, GO, make your history, personality, and appearance intertwine with each other. Don’t be afraid to type about ‘that thing that no one else is supposed to know about your character.’ The way they behave somehow, in some way, is connected with what happened in their past to make them that way! If we who hate writing histories, can pull it together and make it as good as writing a personality and appearance! If we can make everything about our character exciting, and worth playing, let us start by writing a good thought out history as if it were an appearance or a personality.I hope T H IS G U I D E is helpful to you in some way
